Risk Manager

Job Description

This government department is conducting a broad technology transformation programme to build a new secure, modern and flexible platforms.  As a Programme Risk and Issue Specialist you will proactively manage the risks and issues facing the programme by co-ordinating the consistent identification, documentation, monitoring, reporting and mitigation the of risks and issues in addition to the assumptions and dependencies (RAID). 

Main responsibilities:

  • Risk Management Strategy, Processes and Procedures – Maintaining the Risk Management Strategy and plans for effective Risk Management in accordance with best practice, Departmental policy, and the complexity of the change programme.

  • Contribute risk input into the programme business cases.

  • Ensures compliance with, and plans the continuous improvement of, programme risk and issues strategies(y), processes and procedures within change initiatives or sub-organisation(s).

  • Stakeholders – Provision of effective and efficient advice on programme Risks and Issues to Project/Programme Managers and senior leaders.

  • Identification, Analysis, Monitoring and Reporting of Risks and Issues – Responsible for facilitating the identification, analysis and monitoring of PD Risks and Issues. Plans the periodic reporting of risk and ad-hoc PD Risk and Issues reports to meet changing customer demands.

  • Undertakes qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, as required by Governance bodies.


Skills and experience:

  • Detailed knowledge and significant practical experience of programme risk and issues management.

  • Proven risk & issue management ability to systematically identify and monitor risks & issues and maintain risk and RAID registers.

  • Experience in understanding and governance, frameworks and methodologies to clearly define roles, responsibilities and accountabilities and support approval routes appropriate to each stage of the project to monitor project progress and compliance

  • Significant experience of stakeholder engagement and the ability to systematically identify, analyse and communicate with stakeholders, using appropriate channels, to ensure all those impacted by the change are engaged, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.

  • Experience of change control and the ability to understand protocols to manage and document all requests that alter the scope of a project, including, the capture and evaluation of any requests.

  • Experience of analysing management information; identifying patterns or themes and extracting the key data to provide valuable intelligence and insights for senior management.

  • Demonstrable experience of making effective decisions using data and or insights as supporting evidence.


Desirable:

  • Experience of supporting complex projects in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary agile and/or digital environment.

  • A strong demonstrable knowledge of programme support tools - MS Project, JIRA, Confluence, Slack, and Google Suite.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the public sector and government processes.

  • A recognised programme or project risk management qualification (MoR)

  • A recognised project or programme management qualification (e.g. APM, Prince2, MSP etc.)
