Senior Software Engineer (UI)

£55K + 15% bonus

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer (UI) to join a FTSE 100 information services company.

You'll join their exciting Design System Team to support enterprise software solutions across the globe. They utilise award-winning, sophisticated technologies to solve issues in Decision Analytics, Fraud and Identity Theft and are adding first-class design to their products. The Design System is a community-driven resource for designers and engineers that is used to build data-driven, cloud and on-premise software products.


You'll be joining the UK team, working closely with the US team and connecting regularly with the broader UX Practice, some of which are based in their Nottingham office. Once the office reopens, some time will be required there, along with the potential for some international travel.

 

What you'll be doing:


You will be responsible for the ongoing development of the Design System under the direction of the Engineering and Design Leads. You'll use industry standards, best practices and experience to implement reusable UI elements for a variety of technical targets. You'll also review contributions to the design system from other engineers. This role is highly collaborative, and you'll work with multiple teams on a variety of exciting products.

 

  • Using industry standards and framework agnostic technologies (web components), you'll implement component designs provided by the Lead Designer.

  • As new components and features are introduced, ensure the design system maintains technical integrity

  • Contribute to design documentation

  • Establish, maintain and evolve code patterns that scale and can reused by others

  • Manage development work with an agile process including tracking bug fixes, feature requests and community contributions

  • Support the release pipeline and version control

  • Maintain the design system's websites and online systems

  • Provide training and support to engineering teams including integration with frameworks such as Angular and React

 


About you:


You'll have a strong focus on detail and skilfully balance optimisation, performance, functional and aesthetic concerns. You have excellent verbal/written communication, organisational and presentation skills. You enjoy solving complex design problems in an enterprise environment and are able to simplify challenging technical concepts for non-technical audiences. You can work effectively in multi-perspective teams, offering opinions and solutions with clarity and poise.

 

  • Significant UI engineering experience delivering dynamic interfaces with JavaScript, HTML and CSS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or similar field

  • Expert with modern JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React, Svelte, Polymer) and opinionated about concepts like Object-Oriented JS, Prototype, DOM scripting, ES6

  • Experience delivering scalable component libraries using modern frontend technologies (e.g. SASS, WebKit, Node.js, NPM, Tailwind CSS, Zurb Foundation, Material UI)

  • Excellent understanding of software engineering best practices and the ability to communicate benefits and negatives of different programming patterns/strategies/implementations

  • Experience developing for Accessibility, WCAG, and custom keyboard events
