Role Purpose:
The Agile Delivery Manager is responsible for planning, leading and guiding multidisciplinary digital teams to deliver high?quality services that provide exceptional value to users. They ensure delivery aligns with GDS Service Standards, organizational strategy, and agile best practice while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and user?centred design.
Key Responsibilities:
Agile Delivery Leadership
Lead one or more digital delivery teams using Agile, Lean, and iterative delivery practices to deliver complex digital services.
Establish and evolve delivery processes, selecting the right blend of agile, hybrid or iterative approaches depending on context.
Facilitate agile ceremonies (stand?ups, planning, reviews, retrospectives) and remove impediments to team progress.
Working to GDS Standards
Ensure services meet the Government Digital Service (GDS) Service Standard, including discovery, alpha, beta and live assessment requirements.
Support teams in preparing for GDS assessments and embedding user?centred, secure and accessible digital practices.
Champion adherence to GOV.UK design system principles and service patterns. (Supported by SoW content stating adherence to GDS standards).
User?Centred Design Integration
Work closely with User Researchers, Content Designers, Interaction Designers, and service owners to ensure user needs drive decisions.
Prioritise work using evidence from research, data, service analytics and usability testing.
Ensure multidisciplinary teams collaborate effectively across research, design, engineering and product roles.
Stakeholder & Delivery Governance
Build strong relationships with stakeholders across digital, policy, operations and technology.
Communicate delivery plans, risks, dependencies, and progress clearly at all levels.
Represent the delivery area in governance and strategic forums, ensuring alignment to organisational priorities.
Team Health & Continuous Improvement
Foster psychological safety, collaboration, openness and a high?performing team culture.
Encourage experimentation and learning; champion continuous improvement in ways of working, planning and capability growth.
Mentor and coach delivery team members in agile principles and delivery excellence.
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential:
Demonstrable experience delivering digital services using Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Lean).
Proven ability to work within environments following the GDS Service Standard lifecycle.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams: engineering, UCD specialists, product management, QA, data and architecture.
Strong servant?leadership, facilitation, coaching and communication skills.
Ability to manage complex delivery landscapes, balancing pace, quality, and user?centred value.
Desirable:
Experience in large?scale or complex environments (e.g., programmes, multi?team ecosystems).
Understanding of DevOps principles, continuous delivery and platform?based delivery.
Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Miro/Mural, and collaboration platforms.
Awareness of service design techniques, data?informed decision making and accessibility requirements.
