Social Value
Hanover understand the importance of UK Government policies and proposals for decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy to meet net zero target by 2050. We acknowledge our responsibility to act sustainably across all functions and recognise the need for sustainable practices by the company, and by individual employees.
We have officially committed to The SME Climate Commitment. Recognising that climate change poses a threat to the economy, nature, and society, our company commits to take action immediately in order to:
- Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030
- Achieve net zero emissions before 2050
- Disclose our progress on a yearly basis
In doing so, we are proud to be recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and join governments, businesses, cities, regions, and universities around the world that share the same mission.

Carbon Reduction
Hanover have implemented a robust Carbon Reduction Strategy that outlines our specific, measurable actions to lower greenhouse gas emissions across operations, supply chains, and energy use. It includes emission measurements, clear targets, timelines, and monitoring mechanisms to track progress and ensure accountability. You'll find a few details of this and our ESG activities below.
We have also partnered with SkootEco to expand our ESG initiatives and achieve our NetZero goals. SkootEco are a B Corp certified organisation that provide expert solutions to improve governance, meet reporting requirements, and reduce emissions. Weare funding impactful carbon reduction projects and earning carbon credits to retire our entire Carbon Emissions from 2024.
We are pleased that our 61 tons of carbon emissions from last year were: “Retired on behalf of Hanover for the year ended 2024 by SKOOT ECO Group Ltd”.

ESG Projects

Social: Circular Economy and Waste Management
This project operator is the largest ESG Reuse Marketplace, connecting enterprises, nonprofits, and SMEs to facilitate the reuse and redistribution of surplus items across sectors such as construction, real estate, retail, hospitality, and medical.
Their marketplace enables businesses to repurpose and reuse unneeded, obsolete stock and assets, drastically reducing waste, storage, and disposal costs. This helps organisations address sustainability challenges while improving operational efficiency.
By reusing items instead of incinerating them or sending them to landfills, they have been able to defer scope 3 carbon emissions,
totaling 77,427 tCO2e.
Key Benefits:
- Cost Reduction: By reducing storage, transportation, and disposal fees, businesses can streamline operations and significantly lower expenses.
- Social Impact: Globechain’s marketplace ensures that surplus goods are redistributed to needy communities, fostering social impact by supporting charities and NGOs globally. The marketplace helps businesses contribute to society while adhering to sustainability standards

Environment: Skoot Life Guardian
We are also taking part in Skoot Life, where every month we'll plant 14 certified trees and remove 70 ocean-bound plastic bottles on behalf of our employees.
Tree planting involves the strategic planting of trees to restore forests, create new green spaces, and enhance biodiversity. Our trees are planted globally by registered NGOs, providing much-needed employment to vulnerable communities. These initiatives ensure that forests are planted in perpetuity and protected by long-term local communities.
Plastic waste collection involves gathering discarded plastic materials from vulnerable coastlines and waterways to prevent them from entering the oceans. This process helps reduce pollution, protect wildlife, and prevent harmful chemicals from leaching into ecosystems.
In our initiatives, plastic collectors can trade in their collected plastic bottles for income and benefits such as health insurance, grocery vouchers, and school supplies.

Governance: Quality Standards
At Hanover, strong governance is the foundation of our operations and decision-making. As a small to medium enterprise, we are committed to upholding transparency, accountability, and ethical business practices in everything we do. We possess ISO 9001, the globally recognized standard for quality management systems (QMS) and are CyberEssentials+ Accredited.
Our governance policies include a clear code of conduct, data protection protocols, anti-bribery measures, and regular staff training to ensure compliance with relevant laws and standards. We also maintain open communication channels for reporting concerns and regularly review our internal processes to support continuous improvement and responsible growth.

Mentoring: Mental Health & Employability
Hanover are also dedicated to working with young people in our local community. Partnering with the University of Brighton, our employees mentor and provide support for students who are struggling with mental health, anxiety and confidence issues.
We are active in 2 University programmes. The Momentum Mentoring Scheme allows us to provide guidance, feedback and support to mentees, encouraging and enabling their professional and personal development. The Recruitment Ready scheme is a fast-paced workshop schedule, training students in identifying their skills and attributes, creating an effective CV, preparing for interview scenarios and understanding the wider job market for their desired career path.
