You will play a key part in updating libraries, frameworks, and shared components, enabling service teams to deliver accessible, performant, and secure digital services. Collaboration with the wider frontend and UX community is essential, helping shape best practices and guiding adoption across delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, modernise, and upgrade shared frontend libraries and frameworks.
- Ensure a consistent developer experience and coding standards across multiple service teams.
- Collaborate with the frontend and UX community to align on best practices, accessibility, and design patterns.
- Support teams in adopting platform components, resolving integration issues, and improving reusability.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, focusing on scalability, security, and long-term sustainability.
- Drive automation, testing, and CI/CD practices to improve platform reliability.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong experience as a frontend developer with Scala expertise (e.g. Play Framework).
- Proven background in platform or library development, not just service delivery.
- Deep understanding of modern frontend technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Experience building accessible, reusable components aligned to GDS Design System standards.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, version control (Git), and agile practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and disciplines.
Desirable:
- Experience working on UK Government digital programmes.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Exposure to containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Active involvement in frontend or open-source communities.
