We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, develop and support ETL solutions within an established Talend framework. The role will focus on building scalable data pipelines using Talend and working with Oracle RDS databases in a secure, Agile delivery environment.

This is a hands-on role suited to engineers with strong ETL, SQL and data platform experience, with exposure to enterprise-scale delivery and structured governance practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and maintain technical design documentation (HLDs/LLDs where required)
  • Develop ETL solutions using Talend in line with established frameworks and patterns
  • Build and maintain project artefacts including Talend jobs, Oracle DDL and SQL scripts, and GitLab pipeline enhancements
  • Review, challenge and refine project requirements with delivery stakeholders
  • Investigate and resolve defects and issues identified during testing phases
  • Conduct peer reviews of development and test artefacts to ensure quality and consistency
  • Support production releases, deployments and post-release “warranty” activities
  • Maintain RAID logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) and proactively escalate where required
  • Conduct component testing, including test data creation and execution of automated test packs
  • Support QA teams in test execution and defect debugging across the delivery lifecycle
  • Contribute to performance testing and optimisation of ETL solutions
  • Collaborate within Agile teams, including stand-ups and scrum-of-scrums sessions
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers

Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer in enterprise or public sector environments
  • Strong ETL/data integration experience (Talend preferred)
  • Experience with alternative ETL tools such as Pentaho or Informatica (transferable)
  • Strong Oracle database experience, including Oracle RDS
  • Advanced SQL skills (DDL and DML)
  • Experience with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab)
  • Experience supporting testing phases (component testing, defect resolution, test automation support)
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments
  • Active SC clearance
Desirable / Optional Skills:
  • Experience working in similar government programmes
  • Familiarity with CRS/FATCA or financial compliance data domains
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and pipeline automation
  • Experience contributing to performance testing activities
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
  • Understanding of structured governance approaches (e.g. RAID management)
