This is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable operating at pace, collaborating across architecture, delivery, policy, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and improve end-to-end services aligned to user needs and strategic architecture outcomes
- Work across programmes, contributing to discovery, alpha, beta, and live phases
- Apply GDS Service Standard and UCD principles consistently
- Map and improve complex user journeys, service blueprints, and operational processes
- Collaborate with user researchers, interaction designers, enterprise architects, and product teams
- Support design decisions with evidence, insight, and clear artefacts
- Communicate service design rationale effectively to senior stakeholders
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a Service Designer in UK Central Government
- Strong understanding of GDS Service Standards and UCD practices
- Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Ability to design services across complex policy, operational, and technical environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote, outcome-driven environment
Desirable:
- Experience working with Architecture, Strategy, or Design Authority functions
- Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation or enterprise platforms
- Familiarity with compliance or customer account-based services
