We are seeking an experienced Technical Architect to support the ongoing development and optimisation of a UK Government platform which underpins cross-departmental integration, consolidating multiple siloed systems into a scalable SaaS-based environment.

This role suits a senior architect with expertise in API-led integration, cloud-native design, and government-grade security standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the technical architecture of the platform, aligning with GDS, and cross-government integration standards.
  • Design end-to-end integration solutions covering APIs, messaging, microservices, and orchestration components.
  • Provide architectural governance and technical assurance across development teams, suppliers, and wider stakeholders.
  • Define reusable patterns for code sharing, version control, and integration workflows.
  • Engage with API catalogues, data domains, and platform documentation to ensure consistent alignment with integration strategy.
  • Produce high-quality architecture artefacts, including HLDs, LLDs, sequence diagrams, interface specs, security models, and deployment patterns.
  • Oversee platform evolution, identifying opportunities for consolidation, optimisation, and modernisation.
  • Support solution teams in troubleshooting integration issues and advising on best-practice API design.
  • Ensure architectural decisions meet compliance, security, and scalability requirements.
  • Collaborate with delivery partners to ensure coherent technical design and delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Active SC Clearance.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Architect on major government or enterprise-scale integration programmes.
  • Strong understanding of API-led architecture, RESTful services, event-driven patterns, and message-based integration.
  • Deep technical knowledge of integration tooling and platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Azure Integration Services, WSO2, Apigee, Kong, or equivalent).
  • Solid experience working with SaaS-based and hybrid cloud integration models.
  • Strong grasp of security standards: OAuth, JWT, TLS, API security patterns, identity management.
  • Experience designing solutions in highly regulated environments such as banking, telco, or government.
  • Proficiency in Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tooling.
  • Ability to produce clear architectural artefacts for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across delivery, product, and security teams.

Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge of GDS standards, technology code of practice, and service assessment requirements.
  • Understanding of microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud architecture (Azure/AWS/GCP).
  • Experience working with data integration, ETL, and legacy-to-cloud transformation programmes.
