This role suits a senior architect with expertise in API-led integration, cloud-native design, and government-grade security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical architecture of the platform, aligning with GDS, and cross-government integration standards.
- Design end-to-end integration solutions covering APIs, messaging, microservices, and orchestration components.
- Provide architectural governance and technical assurance across development teams, suppliers, and wider stakeholders.
- Define reusable patterns for code sharing, version control, and integration workflows.
- Engage with API catalogues, data domains, and platform documentation to ensure consistent alignment with integration strategy.
- Produce high-quality architecture artefacts, including HLDs, LLDs, sequence diagrams, interface specs, security models, and deployment patterns.
- Oversee platform evolution, identifying opportunities for consolidation, optimisation, and modernisation.
- Support solution teams in troubleshooting integration issues and advising on best-practice API design.
- Ensure architectural decisions meet compliance, security, and scalability requirements.
- Collaborate with delivery partners to ensure coherent technical design and delivery.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Active SC Clearance.
- Proven experience as a Technical Architect on major government or enterprise-scale integration programmes.
- Strong understanding of API-led architecture, RESTful services, event-driven patterns, and message-based integration.
- Deep technical knowledge of integration tooling and platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Azure Integration Services, WSO2, Apigee, Kong, or equivalent).
- Solid experience working with SaaS-based and hybrid cloud integration models.
- Strong grasp of security standards: OAuth, JWT, TLS, API security patterns, identity management.
- Experience designing solutions in highly regulated environments such as banking, telco, or government.
- Proficiency in Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tooling.
- Ability to produce clear architectural artefacts for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across delivery, product, and security teams.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of GDS standards, technology code of practice, and service assessment requirements.
- Understanding of microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud architecture (Azure/AWS/GCP).
- Experience working with data integration, ETL, and legacy-to-cloud transformation programmes.
